Climb & Run
Climb and Run for Wilderness is Alberta Wilderness Association’s annual Earth Day event at the Calgary Tower. This event provides you the unique opportunity to climb the 802 stairs inside the Calgary Tower. The day is filled with entertainment, including an outstanding Wild Alberta Expo where you can learn more about Alberta’s wilderness, wildlife and wild waters. You will have a terrific time and be eligible for outstanding prizes.
The athletic events are divided between individual and team challenge events. People of all ages, and athletic ability are welcome to participate. If you are aged 2 to 102 this is your Earth Day event.
The 2015 event on April 18, 2015 marks the 24th annual Climb and 13th annual Run for Wilderness!
Please Note: For each climb to count, it must be checked off at the start gate by a designated staff member when you pass by on the way into the tower. It is your responsibility to ensure that your name is checked off every time you pass by – unrecorded climbs cannot be included retroactively.
Towerrunning World Cup Premium Race– 7:30am – 8:30am
This is an elite athletic competition and is part of the Towerrunning World Cup.
Climb as many times as possible in 1 hour, NO elevator service, route will be up and down stairs and includes race on ground level. Cash prize for male and female athletes with the most climbs. Outstanding athletes from other Towerrunning World Cup races are invited to participate as guests of the Calgary Tower and the Climb and Run for Wilderness.
Race for Wilderness – 8:45am
This is a timed event. You will have your results available within the hour after the race is over. Timing for the event is sponsored by Gord’s Running Store. It is a great race season warm-up: you will race with some of the best for 1km at street level and then ascend the 802 stairs of the Calgary Tower. You’ll have lots of fun and there are outstanding prizes for race winners!
Fun Climb – 9:00am – 1:00pm
Climb as many times as you want as an individual or a team. This event is not part of the official endurance climb; climbers may use elevator to ride down the tower.
Teams of four or less may climb as many times as you want – not part of official endurance climb; climbers may use elevator to ride down the tower. Represent your corporation, family, school, church or any other group you would like. Team spirit and top fundraising prizes awarded at end of day.
Endurance Climb – 9:00am – 1:00pm
Compete for most climbs in 4 hours. NO elevator service: route will be up and down stairs and includes a short circuit at street level. Most Climbs as an individual adult male and female; and youth 18 and under, male and female prizes
Teams of four or less climb as many times as you can. NO elevator service; route will be up and down stairs and includes a short circuit at street level. Represent your corporation, family, school, church or any other group you would like; compete for most climbs by a team or best fundraising team prizes.
